Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, was on from the start as Manchester City defeated Borussia Dortmund 6-5 on penalties in their pre-season International Champions Cup clash at the Shenzhen Stadium in China on Thursday.
The teams were all square at 1-1 after regulation time.
Sergio Aguero, who came on as a second half substitute, scored in the 78th minute to give City the lead before Christian Pulisic grabbed a stoppage time equaliser.
Iheanacho came close for Manchester City on 15 minutes but he forced a smart save from the Dortmund keeper.
In stoppage time, Iheanacho had another opportunity but couldn’t put the ball past Roman Buerki in goal for Dortmund.
Iheanacho earned high praise from City fans commenting on their Twitter handle during the match, and the young Nigerian must have caught the eye of Pep Guardiola.
Before the start of the second half, Iheanacho was replaced by Wilfred Bony, while the likes of David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure were introduced into the game.
With 12 minutes remaining, Aguero finally broke the deadlock, tapping into the net following Silva’s cutback.
And in the 96th minute, Pulisic equalised for Dortmund to send the game into penalty shootout.
Manchester City’s game against Manchester United in the International Champions Cup billed for Monday had been cancelled due to poor weather condition.
Also, in their first pre-season game, Manchester City lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in Pep Guardiola’s first game in charge.
