Flying Eagles attacking midfielder Kelechi Iheanacho scored his second goal in four days, just 12 minutes after coming off the bench for Manchester City’s U21 side that defeated Leicester City 3-2 in Thursday’s Premier League International Cup semi-final clash.
The 18 year old highly-rated star who replaced Jorge Intima on the right wing at half time calmly slotted home a brilliant pass from Jose Angel Pozzo in the 57th minute to further ascertain his readiness for the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.
Harry Panayiotu’s brace had handed the visitors the lead before Pozzo’s strike restored parity for City. Manu García Alonso grabbed the winner in the first half of extra time.
former Golden Eaglets star, Iheanacho, who starred for Manchester City’s U18 in their 5-2 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Brdge was however denied twice by Leicester City’s goalkeeper Adam Smith from close range.
City EDS’ side defeated Celtic 5-3 on penalties in the quarter-finals with Angus Gunn the hero for Patrick Vieira’s team as they were second best for much of the game, but against the young foxes it was Iheanacho.
Vieira’s team will now face Fulham or Porto in the finals of the competition.
