Flying Eagles attacking midfielder Kelechi Iheanacho scored on his FA Youth Cup debut for Manchester City who lost 2-1 and 5-2 on aggregate to Chelsea who retained the FA Youth Cup in Monday night’s final at Stamford Bridge.
And the former FIFA U17 World Cup MVP has thus boosted his chances of making the final Nigeria squad for next month FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
Flying Eagles star plays for 71 minutes as City crash 5-2 on aggregate at Stamford Bridge.
The 19 year old highly-rated midfielder gave his side the lead in the seventh minute after he tapped in Aaron Nemane’s cross from the left flank but the young Blues restored parity 13 minutes later when Izzy Brown headed home Charlie Colkett’s corner.
Brown rose above his marker Iheanacho to restore their two goal lead. Tammy Abraham however put the game beyond the visitors when he grabbed the winner in the 46th minute for his 39th goal of the season and Chelsea’s fifth Youth Cup final in six seasons.
Iheanacho forced two brilliant saves from goalkeeper Collins. First it was a header in the 24th minute before he fired a shot from the edge of the box straight at him. He was however replaced in the 71st minute by Isaac Buckley-Ricketts.
