Kelechi Iheanacho made his third English Premier League start for Manchester City who stayed close to leaders Leicester City at the top of the following their 1-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.
Sergio Aguero scored a first half goal for Manchester City as Manuel Pellegrini’s side moved up to second spot on the log behind Leicester City who defeated Liverpool 2-0 at the King Power stadium.
The Argentine forward looped home a sublime pass for the opener in the 16th minute of the cagey encounter.
It was Aguero’s 17th goal of the season for Manchester City and his 12th EPL goal in his last ten appearances for the club.
Sunderland pushed up for the equaliser but an in-form Joe Hart stopped Jermaine Defoe who wriggled away from the defensive pair of Otamendi and Demichelis twice in the encounter.
The Citizens are now three points adrift of Leicester City who they host this weekend at the Etihad stadium on Saturday.
Iheanacho was taken off in favour of Fernando at the start of the second half.
