Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has warned that his team ‘must improve defensively’ if they are to stand a chance of overcoming Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals next week.
Iheanacho bagged a brace for his side in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Southampton, but could not prevent the European semi-finalists from losing 4-2 to Ronald Koeman’s side at St Mary’s, their tenth of the campaign.
The 19-year-old Nigerian who took his goal tally to 13 in 32 appearances in all competitions claimed that “many things went wrong”, but says he is confident that the defeat will be forgotten about by the time that they travel to the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
“Many things went wrong in our team. We lost so many balls and didn’t defend well,” Kelechi told reporters after the game.
“I think we’re going to come stronger in the next game. This game didn’t give us enough encouragement. But we will put it behind us and focus on the Real Madrid game.”
