–Echiejile returns to action with Monaco, Ideye, Enyeama benched
John Mikel Obi (Chelsea); Nigerian midfielder Mikel Obi made his 18th appearance of the season for Chelsea who beat Watford 3-0 in the FA Cup clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The game was also Mikel’s 22nd FA Cup appearance for the Blues, who bounced back from their New Year day’s defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
Odion Ighalo (Watford): Ighalo, who scored his fourth Championship goal of the season for Waford in their 4-2 win away at Cardiff City to end his nine match goal drought for the Hornets, has played 18 games in the championship.
Brown Ideye, Victor Anichebe (West Brom): Nigerian srtiker Victor Anichebe scored his first Cup game of the season for West Brom who outclassed Gateshead 7-0 at the Hawthorns on Saturday.
The Nigerian international gave his side a two-goal advantage just before the half-time whistle with a powerful finish. His compatriot Brown Ideye who was an unused substitute in the win has scored twice in 13 appearances in all competitions.
Sammy Ameobi (Newcastle United): Nigerian-born winger Sammy Ameobi was not listed for action for Newcastle United who were dumped out of the third round of the FA Cup by Leicester away at the King Power Stadium. The lanky forward has scored once in 13 games. The Magpies’ next game is against Burnley.
Kenneth Omeruo (Middlesbrough): Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo played all 90 minutes for Middlesbrough who defeated Barnsley 2-0. The Chelsea loanee has played 14 games for the Riverside team this term.
Hope Akpan (Reading): Super Eagles midfielder Hope Akpan was not listed for Reading in Sunday’s 1-0 win away at Huddersfield Town. Akpan played 12 games before he got injured in action for Nigeria.
Danny Shittu (Millwall): Super Eagles centre-back Danny Shittu was in action for full 90 minutes as his championship side Millwall battled visiting Bradford City to a 3-3 draw on Saturday in one of the FA Cup clashes. Shittu who joined Millwall in 2012 from Queens Park Rangers has so far made 66 appearances, scoring two goals. The former Bolton Wanderers ace made 32
appearances for the Super Eagles between 2000 and 2010.
Ikechukwu Uche (Villarreal): Super Eagles forward Ikechukwu Uche scored his fifth La Liga goal of the campaign for Villarreal in Saturday’s 2-2 draw away to Elche. Luciano Dario Vietto got the opening goal for the Yellow Submarines in the 13th minute before the Nigerian striker doubled the advantage for the visitors five minutes later.
Ramon Azeez (Almeria): Super Eagles midfielder Ramon Azeez was handed a cameo appearance in Almeria’s 2-1 away win against Malaga. Azeez replaced Corona in the 90th minute for his ninth appearance this season. The win lifts Almeria out of the relegation zone to 14th on the La Liga log.
Vincent Enyeama (Lille): First choice Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama watched from the bench as SC Bastia got the better of LOSC Lille with a 2-0 win on Saturday thanks to a first-half brace by Floyd Ayité. Enyeama has played 18 Ligue 1 games, conceding 17 goals.
Elderson Echiejile (AS Monaco): Nigerian defender Elderson Echejile played his first Coupe de France game for Monaco who dumped Nimes out of the competition with a 2-0 win at the at the Stade des Costières. Echiejile has scored once in seven Ligue 1 appearances.
Emmanuel Emenike (Fenerbache): Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike was an unused substitute for Fenerbache who beat Istanbul Buyuksehir 2-0 to remain top of the Turkish Super Lig. Emenike has only scored twice in 13 games.
Macauley Chrisantus, John Utaka (Sivasspor); Joseph Akpala (Karabükspor): Super Eagles forward Joseph Akpala failed to add to his two goal tally for Karabükspor who slumped to a 2-0 defeat away to Sivasspor who benched former youth international,Chrisantus Macauley. It was Akpala’s 13th game of the season. Sivasspor’s Chrisantus has scored one goal in eight appearances while Utaka who missed the encounter has bagged two goals in ten games.
Gbenga Arokoyo (Gaziantepspor); Raheem Lawal (Eskişehirspor): Former Flying Eagles defender Gbenga Arokoyo was a stoppage time substitute in Gaziantepspor’s 3-1 thrashing of Eskişehirspor who didn’t list Raheem Lawal for the clash. Arokoyo replaced Muhammet Demir in the 89th minute of the encounter for his 14th game of the Turkish Super Lig. Lawal has scored twice in 14 games.
Godfrey Oboabona (Rizespor): Super Eagles defender Godfrey Oboabona was conspicuously missing from Rizespor’s squad that drew 1-1 at home to Konyaspor. Oboabona last
featured for his side in their 2-1 win at home to Adana Demirspor in a Cup game on the 12th of December, 2014. Oboabona has played eight games and has scored once.
Simeon Nwankwo (Gil Vicente): Nigerian attacker Simeon Nwankwo was in the starting line-up but couldn’t prevent his team from losing 5-1 at home to FC Porto. He was later substituted by Avtandil Ebralidze on 75 minutes. He has scored three goals in 11 games.
Obiora Nwankwo (Academy de Coimbra): Nigerian midfielder Nwankwo Obiora was on from the start before making way for Riu Pedro as Academica held Belenenses to a 0-0 draw away.
Obiora, who has now featured 14 times for Academica, was however booked in the 38th minute.
Anderson Esiti (Estoril): Nigerian midfielder Anderson Esiti saw 60 minutes of action before he was replaced by Matias Cabrera as his side lost 3-0 to Sporting Lisbon. He has featured eight times but his yet to score
