–Ex-Eagles star rates Amokachi’s home Eagles high
Despite his inability to wrestle the 2014 Africa Footballer of the Year Award during the Glo/CAF Awards night in Lagos, former Super Eagles defender, Ben Iroha has insisted that Vincent Enyeama remains the best not only in Nigeria but also in Africa.
“For me, not winning the African Footballer of the Year does not take anything away from quality and potentials of Vincent Enyeama”, starts Iroha from his base in the United States of America.
“It would have been nice if he had won the award but even at that for me, Enyeama deserves the award and remains one of the few footballers the country and continent should be proud of.
“It’s unfortunate he lost out but that does not hold anything against his discipline, performance and leadership. Of course, in a contest, there must be a winner and a loser.”
Iroha was part of the Super Eagles Nations Cup winning squad in Tunisia in 1994. He was also part of the Super Eagles that participated for the first time in the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals in the USA.
He reckons that the country is on the path of restoring the form and pride of the senior national team given the performances of the home based Super Eagles at the concluded two-match tour of the United Arab Emirates, UAE where they defeated Yemen 2-0 after a 0-1 loss to Ivory Coast.
“I’m impressed with the team’s performance, not just because they defeated Yemen (2-0) but the rebuilding process the team is undergoing.
