Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic is undoubtedly certain that Nigerian midfielder John Mikel Obi still has a lot to offer the club this season despite being out of the squad due to injury.
Ivanovic who becomes the fifth player from overseas to reach the 300th appearances in the colours of Chelsea joined Mikel and the trio of Petr Cech, Didier Drogba and Gianfranco Zola in Chelsea’s 300 club on Saturday in the Blues 1-1 draw at home to Manchester City.
The Serbian believes the 27-year old has had amazing games for the club and is unfortunate to be injured.
“I am very proud, because you have to prove yourself again and again. I am very proud to be part of that group of players to reach 300,’ he said.
“To be part of that group with big names who gave a lot for this club, I am very proud”. “Gianfranco is an idol of Chelsea supporters”, he continued.
“’To be next to him is an amazing feeling.
“Obi as well has a lot of great, amazing games. Unfortunately he is injured at the moment but he will give a lot this season until the end. He has reached 300, it’s amazing and we know how hard it is.”
Recall Mikel was forced to leave Chelsea’s 4-2 loss to Bradford game early with an apparent head injury.
