The Super Eagles got their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start by beating Zambia 2-1 on Sunday in Ndola.
It was Nigeria's first ever win on Zambian soil.
Two goals from Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho in the first half gave Nigeria a 2-0 lead.
Collins Mbesuma reduced the deficit in the second half following a mistake from Kenneth Omeruo.
The Eagles next game is at home against Algeria, while Zambia will be guests to Cameroun.
Zambia almost scored in the third minute following a cross from the right but Carl Ikeme tipped over the bar for a corner.
In the fifth minute Moses Simon sent in a free-kick whick Zambia keeper Kennedy Mweene punched away for a Nigeria corner kick.
Brown Ideye had a chance for the Super Eagles on 15 minutes after Alex Iwobi slipped a pass through but he was already flagged for offside.
In the 22nd minute Fwayo Tembo fired in a shot from range which Ikeme held firmly.
Moses Simon had a big chance for the Eagles on 26 minutes but fired over the bar.
Rainford Kalaba went close for Zambia on 31 minutes only to see his left-foot strike miss the target.
Iwobi gave Nigeria the lead on 32nd minutes, volleying in inside the box off a Zambian player's flick on from a Wilfred Ndidi throw-in.
Ikeme saved the Eagles blushes after making a superb save off Kalaba's close-range header on 39 minutes.
Iheanacho doubled Nigeria's lead on 42 minutes, rounding Mweene before calmly slotting into an empty net after an assist from Ideye.
Mbesuma almost halved the deficit on 55 minutes but his weak shot was well saved by Ikeme.
A minute later Iwobi had a chance from the edge but his left-foot strike was saved by Mweene.
On 56 minutes Tembo went close for Zambia but couldn't connect with a cross.
Mweene made a great save, tipping over Mikel Obi's strike from the edge of the Zambian box.
Ikeme prevented Rainford Kalaba from scoring for Zambia, making a one-handed save from close range after a mistake from thenerror-prone Ndidi.
Ikeme was called to action in the 69th minute parrying away a goal-bound header from a corner.
Mbesuma made it 2-1 on 71 minutes smashing in inside the box after a mistake from Omeruo.
The Super Eagles made their first change with Anderson Esiti replacing Ideye on 73rd minutes.
The Eagles made their second change in the 83rd minute with Ahmed Musa replacing the rather quiet Simon.
Musa had his first shot on target a minute late!r hitting a long range strike which Mweene punched away.
Kalaba went close for Zambia in the 88th minute but his left-foot strike went wide.
