By Johnny Edward: Japan’s Under-23 star, Takuma Asano, is set to join English Premier League side Arsenal this summer, according to reports in Japan, Completesportsnigeria.com has gathered.
The 21 year old Asano, who is expected to lead Japan's attack against Nigeria and other Group B oponents at the Rio Olympics football tournament has scored once in four international appearances for the senior side.
Asano,a teammate of Nigerian forward Peter Utaka at Sanfrecce Hiroshima, was an integral part of the Japan side who won the Under-21 Asian Championships earlier this year in January, where he scored two goals in the tournament.
Nicknamed “the Jaguar” for his feline-like pace and speed, Asano has already lifted league trophy twice. He won the J1 League – the top tier of the Japanese football league – in both 2013 and 2015 with Sanfreece Hiroshima.
Japan won bronze at London 2012 and will be hoping to surpass their best ever finish in Rio.
