Kanu: Brazil’s 1982 Team My Best Ever

By Johnny Edward:

Former Super Eagles skipper, Nwankwo Kanu, has picked Brazil's 1982 World Cup squad that crashed out in the second round of the Mundial that year as his best ever, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Kanu who would have been six years as at the time the 1982 World Cup was staged in Spain also wished Argentine legend, Diego Armando Maradona, was in the Brazil squad.

"That's my best team just missing Maradona and can you tell me your best team," Kanu wrote on his Twitter page beneath the picture of the Brazilian squad to the 1982 World Cup in Spain.

The 1982 Brazilian team, with players like Sócrates, Zico, Falcão and Éder, is remembered as perhaps the greatest team never to win a World Cup.

The Seleção were the tournament favorites, and easily moved through the early part of the draw, but a 3–2 defeat in Barcelona to Italy, in one of the classic games in World Cup finals history, eliminated them from the tournament in the match that they referee to as "Sarriá's Disaster", referencing the stadium's name.

Kanu represented Nigeria at three FIFA World Cup finals – 1998, 2002 and 2010, and six African Nations Cup;  2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010.
