The late Super Eagles captain and coach Stephen Keshi was buried on Friday in his home town Illah, Delta State amid tears and tributes to a short but glorious life, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning Nigeria captain and winner as head coach in 2013 died in June aged 54.
He was laid in state on Thursday in Benin.
Illah celebrated its famous son on Friday as tributes poured in for the Big Boss, even as tears flowed for a life that still had so much to offer.
The town welcomed visitors with a giant billboard proclaiming Keshi, fittingly, an "icon of international repute".
Keshi's son, Stephen junior, who performed the final dust-to-dust home-going rites for his father, led the tributes.
Also in Illah to honour their departed friend and teammate were several 'golden generation' Nigeria football stars including Austin Eguavoen, Peter Rufai, Mutiu Adepoju and Friday Ekpo.
Former Arsenal star and Nigeria legend in his own right, Nwankwo Kanu, was also in attendance, looking sad all through the ceremonies.
Keshi's very close friend and assistant of many years, Togolese Valere Hounadinou, was also in attendance, and he could not control the tears.
