Kanu Hails Olympic Eagles For Win Over Sweden, Q-final Ticket

1996 Olympics gold-medallist,  Nwankwo Kanu, has congratulated Nigeria's Olympic Eagles, the Dream Team, for qualifying for the quarter-finals of the 2016 Rio Olympics, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Roma's youngster, Umar Sadiq scored the only goal of the match in the 39th minute as Samson Siasia's side defeated Sweden 1-0 in Manaus on Sunday night to the delight of Kanu who led Nigeria's U-23s to win gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

The former Arsenal forward also praised coach Samson Siasia for his efforts on the team.

Kanu tweeted after the game: "Congratulations our dear team Nigeria U23. Well done boys and well done Samson and your coaching staff, we are proud of you all keep going."

Nigeria will face the runners up in Group A which has Brazil, Denmark, South Africa and Iraq in the quarter-finals billed to kick off this weekend.
