Former Nigeria international Nwankwo Kanu and Manchester City's Yaya Toure have congratulated Riyad Mahrez who was named Premier League Player of the the Year on Sunday.
Mahrez beat off competition from teammates Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and West Ham’s Dmitri Payet to land the award.
Reacting to the award, Kanu hailed Mahrez's performance for Leicester this season, backing his choice for the award.
"Congratulations to PFA player of the Year, well deserved. What a player to watch any day," Kanu wrote on his Twitter handle.
On his part, Toure expressed delight that an African player was picked for the award.
He tweeted: "Congratulations to PFA Player of the Year, Mahrez. Great to see my African brother win it!"
In other awards that were given out on Sunday night, Tottenham’s Dele Alli was voted Young Player of the Year, while Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs was honoured with the PFA Merit Award.
