EXCLUSIVE By Adeboye Amosu:
Former Nigeria youth international, Kehinde Fatai, has accepted to swap nationality and represent Romania at the 2016 European Championship in France, Completesportsnigeria.com can exclusively report.
The forward who represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009, Completesportsnigeria.com scooped, has been courted by officials of the Romania Football Federation since 2015.
He has also featured for Nigeria at the U-23 level, making the squad in a London 2012 Olympics qualifying game against Tanzania.
Fatai, who has been in fantastic form for Sparta Prague since linking up with the Czech Republic club from Romanian side Astra Giurgiu, has decided to switch allegiance after being constantly neglected by national team selectors in Nigeria.
"Fatai is close to becoming a Romania national team player," his agent Odusanya Babatunde Yusuf disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com.
"We are almost through with the paper work and all things being equal, he should feature for Romania at the European Championship this summer.
"He was looking forward to playing for the Super Eagles, but as things stand now, it's not certain the invitation will come any time soon.
"The Romanians are keen to have him play for them and he has made up his mind on playing for them."
The former JUTH FC of Jos player arrived in Romania in 2007, linking up with FC Farul Constanta before joining Astra Giurgiu three years later.Unblock the FIFA World Cup with ExpressVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
