–Rleases Warri Wolves Players For Confed Cup
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has retained eight home-based players ahead of the 2017 AFCON qualifier against Chad on 13 June in Kaduna.
This was made known by the Nigeria Football Federation on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday.
The eight players are, Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa (goalkeepers), Azubuike Egwuekwe, Solomon Kwambe, Chima Akas (defenders), Bright Onyedikachi (midfielder) Gbolahan Salami and Ikechukwu Gabriel (strikers).
Keshi said the retained players would be joined by the 15 invited overseas-based players for the final phase of preparations for the key qualifier.
He urged the players who failed to make the cut not to be discouraged but to work harder to keep themselves among the pool of players that could be called up for future national team assignments.
The Eagles are grouped alongside Egypt, Tanzania and Chad with the winner of the group qualifying automatically for the 2017 AFCON in Gabon.
Meanwhile, Keshi has released the players of Warri Wolves for this weekend's CAF Confederation Cup playoff second leg against AC Leopards of Congo.
The game comes up on Saturday at the Warri Township Stadium.
The Nigerian representatives lost the first leg 3-0 but are confident they can turn things around in the return leg.
The players, Akpeyi, Egwuekwe, Kwambe and Salami, are expected to report back in the Super Eagles camp immediately after the game.
