Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that the target of his team is to go to St. Mary’s and secure the three points against Southampton this weekend, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Reds have been in a good run of form prior to the international break, winning their last four games.
Despite praising the Saints for their summer signings, Klopp however stated that Liverpool’s main concern is how to emerge victors in the game.
“They replaced a very good manager with a great replacement,” Klopp said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.
“Redmond is quite a good choice to replace Mane. But we want to go there and win, rather than celebrate Southampton’s scouting department.
“The biggest surprise for me so far has been Southampton. They have done an unbelievable job. Four of our team are from there.”
The former Borussia Dortmund coach expressed hope that Adam Lallana who went off injured in England’s 2-2 draw against Spain on Tuesday, will not be out for too long.
“With Adam we don’t know yet exactly. We haven’t done a scan until now. It will be close. Hopefully not too serious.”
On Philippe Coutinho’s reported move to Barcelona, Klopp says he believes Liverpool is the right club for the midfielder.
“Very good players you always want to keep long-term. It’s about creating a perspective where nobody wants to leave. My opinion is that he feels very well here. We also hope and think his future is at Liverpool. He’s still very young.”
And on Liverpool’s hectic New Year’s schedule, Klopp said:“It was never for me a Liverpool problem, it was a football problem. We asked for a few hours.
I was a bit angry in the first moment but I accepted that it wouldn’t change long ago”
