Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has stated that he hopes their FA Cup clash against West Ham does not go into a replay, while admitting he does not know when injured striker Daniel Sturridge will be fit.
The Reds booked a place in next month’s Capital One Cup final after beating Stoke on penalty shootout in the second semi-final.
They also saw off Exeter to advance into the fourth round of the FA Cup after a replay.
Speaking ahead of this weekend FA Cup match against West Ham, who beat Liverpool twice this season in the Premier League in his pre-match press conference, Klopp said just like in the game against Exeter, he plans to field a young side.
“I don’t want a replay – I would like to win without a second game!” the German said.
“It will be another young side. It will be a different team for sure. Some players covered 17km in that last game.
“We have to make a few changes, we will make them, but only because we want to win the game.
“The last FA Cup game against Exeter was great. The boys will give everything.”
He added: “The last two wins were great for us. It was a great experience. It helps in terms of becoming a better team.
“The team showed in the last few weeks that they don’t give up in the game.”
“The next time we are 4-3 in a game and concede, everyone will think ‘ah, there is a possibility [to equalise]’.”
Klopp went on to reiterate that Daniel Sturridge will not be making a return anytime soon.
“No news, he’s still working.
Sometimes it’s better, sometimes it’s worse.
“He needs consistency in sessions and that’s what we try to do.”
“He cannot play tomorrow and for sure he can’t play against Leicester.”
“Everyone in this room knows Daniel better than me. There’s no doubt about his quality. We have to work together on his fitness.”
He said Liverpool are still open to bringing in a new player but that he is okay with his current squad aside from injuries.
“We are always busy and checking possibilities.
“If something happens we will see. There’s nothing to say.”
“I am fine with this squad. No problem. Only problem has been injuries.”Watch The Premier League Live!! with EXPRESSVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
