Jurgen Klopp has warned Tottenham Hotspur they could blow their Premier League title chance away when they visit Anfield this weekend.
Klopp, who believes his side are well placed to put a significant dent in Spurs’ title hopes, especially with news that both Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino could be available, claimed during his pre-match conference that the game is a must win for Spurs who are chasing the title.
“Maybe for Tottenham it is something like a final – they have to win to put pressure on Leicester,” Klopp said.
“Usually it is not important for us to think about the situation of the other team but in this special case I think it makes sense to know about it.
“When Tottenham play against Liverpool it is usually not a birthday party, it is a hard fight.
“I like stories like Spurs, but I like stories like Leicester too – if I wasn’t manager of Liverpool then maybe I could enjoy it more.
“I don’t want to make the pressure more for Tottenham but this is a good year to fight for the title, because the teams that maybe challenge for it are not there this season, so it is a good moment.
“For Tottenham this year is a good opportunity – nobody knows what will happen to them next year, whether players leave or not, or if they get injuries. This year they have been really good situation with injuries.
“Each point you can win is so important now. Until now both teams handled it great, it’s really really close, and nobody can think about it yet. Hopefully in future we can be more a part of it.”
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are five points behind league leaders Leicester, with just seven games of the season remaining.
