–CHAN Eagles defender expects tough clash against fellow West Africans
Weeks before the CHAN qualifying match between Nigeria and Burkina Faso, Nigeria defender, Solomon Kwambe has posited the 2013 AFCON losing finalists should not be taken for a ride.
Kwambe plays his club football with Warri Wolves. He played a key role in Nigeria’s third place finish in her debut appearance in the tournament last year in Cape Town, South Africa.
“I know Burkina Faso will be tough so we must be at our best to cage them”, Kwambe said of the clash with the Stallions.
“We overcame them in the 2013 AFCON final and we saw how difficult they were then.
“By now, surely, they would have raised their game and would not want to lose again to us even at the CHAN level.”
The 25-year-old switched to Warri Wolves from Sunshine at the close of last season and was instrumental to the team’s run in the CAF Confederation Cup.
He believes the Home Based Eagles can overcome the Stallions with good preparation.
“We can’t begin now to saw we can win the CHAN since we won bronze in our first participation last year.
“Instead, our focus for now should be on how we can prepare well to edge Burkina Faso and qualify.
“And I believe with adequate preparation, focus and concentration we can achieve that”, Kwambe stressed.
