Sturridge, Firmino Strike As Liverpool Edge Bournemouth

Liverpool climbed to eighth spot on the English Premier League log after they defeated Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts started brightly and should have been awarded a penalty in the fourth minute when Lucas Leiva pulled Josh King down in the box but referee Mike Jones saw it differently.

Liverpool took the lead the 42nd minute after a string of misses when Firmino tapped in from close range after Daniel Sturridge’s superb back-heeled attempt was kept out by Arthur Boruc.

The goal was his eighth in 10 league outings and was arguably the easiest of the lot.

Sturridge doubled the Reds’ lead right at the end of the first half, rising highest to head home Jordan Ibe’s free kick.

In the second half, Sturridge could have made it 3-0 for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the 69th minute but his attempted lob shot on
goal went wide. He also hit the post with a rising shot near the box.

Eddie Howe brought on Lewis Grabban, Callum Wilson and Marc Pugh in search of an avenue back into the match and was rewarded when King netted in a very late consolation.
