No fewer than nine Super Eagles stars departed Nigeria on Thursday back to their bases for club duties, completesportsnigeria.com can report.
One of them was Haruna Lukman, who hopes to be given another chance after his poor showing against Tanzania led to his being taken off after just 35 minutes.
Just as coach Sunday Oliseh departed for Belgium with his assistant, Completesportsnigeria.com checks at the Muritala International airport in Lagos revealed that the quartet of Lukman, Sylvester Igboun, Izunna Uzochukwu and Emmanuel Emenike also departed for their respective teams.
Also Obiora Nwankwo, Godfrey Oboabona and Kenneth Omeruo were also part of the players that returned to their bases from Lagos.
Also on board to Russia with Lukman was his Anzhi teammate Amaolu Mutari who played for Niger in their 2-0 loss to the Super Eagles.
“I was happy to be called up for the game against Nigeria but would have been happy to face Lukman on the pitch,” Mutari said.
In a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com, Lukman stated that he hopes to get another chance to redeem his image in subsquent games for the national team.
“I’m happy to be back in the group and I hope to perform regularly for Anzhi to get another chance.
“But I would have loved to play against Mutari in the friendly, ” Lukman told completesportsnigeria.com.
