Mali U-23 side coach, Cheick Oumar Kone, says his side's poor start to the Group B Africa U-23 Cup of Nations fixture against Nigeria cost them victory in the game, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The West Africans who conceded three goals in the first half came back strongly after the break to score twice, but were unable to find an equaliser.
Kone also admitted they must avoid the same mistake in their next game against Algeria if they are to make it to the last four in the competition.
"We started very badly, but in the second half we played collectively," he told reporters after the game.
"We lifted our game and scored twice. We could have equalised but we failed to convert some of the chances.
"Our next game against Algeria will equally be difficult. They are beatable, but we have to avoid mistakes like we did against Nigeria."
