Manchester City teen prospect Kelechi Iheanacho is in contention to make the Flying Eagles team to next month Africa Youth Championship.
The 18 year old was earlier ruled out of the tournament by the team, as he was supposed to be out injured till mid March by which time the tournament should have been on.
However the player made a quick recovery and has been in training for two weeks now, a situation which alerted Coach Manu Garba of the Nigeria Under-20.
Garba spoke with one of his representatives and presently a line of communication has been established and talks over his release are well advanced.
“We still don’t know if he will be released or not but I can confirm talks are ongoing between Manu Garba and officials of Manchester City regarding his release” a source at the team camp told SL10.ng
Manchester City SL10.ng gathered are willing to let him leave for the tournament where a strong showing will aid their case of obtaining a work permit for him using the special talent rule.
The rule will be made more stringent next year so the club is hoping he will have a strong showing and they are confident a work permit will be granted to him by the home office this year.
Iheanacho is expected to at least be in camp on latest on Wednesday to be assessed by the team medical crew before the naming of the squad is done on Thursday.
