Man United, Chelsea Bounce Back With Everton, Villa Wins

Goals from Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herreira and Wayne Rooney saw Manchester United claim a 3-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

United still smarting from their defeat to Arsenal by same scoreline before the international break went ahead in the 18th minute.

Ander Herreira’s shot was tipped over the bar by Tim Howard, but Morgan Schneiderlin swept home as Chris Smalling chested down and lay a pass onto his path.

United found the net for the first time in four seasons at Goodison Park with that goal but in quick time, made it 2-0 with Herreira this time the scorer.

The Spaniard scored from a quick counter attacking move, heading home a cross from Marco Rojo despite Smalling being fouled in the build-up.

Old Evertonian Rooney was the scorer of the last goal at his old home.

Phil Jagielka’s pass was intercepted by Schneiderlin and he passed to Herreira. The Spaniard found Rooney who scored to somewhat reduce the pressure on himself.

The England captain shrugged off a challenge from Phil Jagielka in the 69th minute but his effort was saved by Tim Howard’s legs.

It finished 3-0 and United went second in the table at least until Arsenal’s game against Watford ends.

Chelsea also bounced back from their recent poor run of form by beating Aston Villa 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The game saw Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho make two changes with Abdulrahman Baba coming in for injured Branislav Ivanovic, while Ruben Loftus-cheek came in for Nemanja Matic

Diego Costa made a return to the side after serving his three-ban ban, while Eden Hazard was benched.

And it was Costa who put the Blues in front when he struck in the 34th minute.

Then in the second half, Chelsea doubled the lead thanks to an Alan Hutton own-goal in the 54th minute.

The win sees Chelsea move to the 11th position in the league table with 11 points, 10 adrift of leaders Manchester City.
