Manchester United in the early hours of Sunday defeated Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy 5-2 in their first pre-season game on their United States tour at the Stub Hub Centre, California, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
There was no debut goal for Romelu Lukaku with United goals coming from Marcus Rashford (brace), Marouane Fellaini, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial. Giovanni Dos Santos scored LA Galaxy goals in the natch.
Rashford latched onto a pass from Jese Lingard to score in the second minute.
Rashford doubled United's lead in the 20th minute placing the ball to the bottom left corner from a Juan Mata pass.
Jesse Lingard set up Marouane Fellaini to score the third in the 26th minute but what would have been the fourth goal was disallowed for offside.
Former United and LA Galaxy star David Beckham was in the stands to see the game with United having a different line up in the second half.
LA Galaxy played a more experienced side in the second half with the likes of Ashley Cole at left back and Jermain Jones in midfield helping to contain United.
Mkhitaryan made it 4-0 for United in the 67th minute from a Martial assist.
Martial then scored the fifth of the game five minutes later and eighteen minutes to full time when he swept home a low cross from Timothy Fosu-Mensah.
Mensah had made a run, getting on to the end of a Paul Pogba pass before setting up the French forward.
Mexican forward Dos Santos restored some pride for the American club with a goal with a right footed finish in the 78th minute.
Dos Santos scored another for his MLS side with a fortuitous effort in the 88th minute, the ball hitting his midrift and into the net from a corner kick.
