A severely depleted Manchester United defeated Arsenal 3-2 in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford to put a dent on the Gunners’ title hopes.
A brace from 18-year-old Marcus Rashford and a deflected shot fron Ander Herrera secured the win for United. Danny Welbeck and Mezut Ozil scored for Arsenal.
Nacho Monreal had Arsenal’s first real chance in the 7th minute after a delightful flick from Mezut Ozil but David De Gea made a good save.
In the 14th minute Petr Cech got down quickly to stop a Memphis Depay free-kick.
Cech was called to action in the 23rd minute stopping a dangerous left-wing cross.
Marcus Rashford opened his Premier League debut goal, scoring in the 29th minute after Gabriel Paulista mis-kicked a cross.
Rashford made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute heading in a Jesse Lingard cross.
Danny Welbeck halved the deficit in the 40th minute, heading in an Ozil free-kick.
Arsenal came close to levelling the score on 46 minutes but Laurent Koscienly’s header looked to have hit Rashford in the hand.
In the 10th minute, Marcos Rojo went off injured and was replaced by fosu-Mensah.
Francis coquelin made a timely block off a schneiderlin shot in the 56th minute.
Depay hit a long range shot in the 61st minute which Cech saved.
Olivier Giroud was brought in for the ineffective Theo Walcott in the 62nd minute.
Ander Herrera made it 3-1 in the 65th minute following a Koscielny deflection.
Ozil made it 3-2 in the 69th minute profiting from a De Gea rebound.
On 80th minute Rashford went off for Adnan Januzaj.
On 83 minutes, Alex Iwobi went in for Welbeck.
Koscielny met an Ozil free-kick in the 86th minute but De Gea made a save.
The loss sees Arsenal remain third, five points off leaders Leicester city.
