Mastoroudes: Emenike’s Retirement In His Best Interest

By Adeboye Amosu:

Erstwhile member of  technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, John Mastoroudes, says he is not surprised by  Emmanuel Emenike's decision  to quit international football, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.

The former Spartak Moscow forward announced his retirement from the Super Eagles Monday evening via his instagram account.

The news came as a rude shock to many as the well built hitman has been a regular starter in the Super Eagles in recent years.

However, the Greek born soccer administrator is not moved by the decision of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer.

"The news of Emmanuel Emenike's retirement from the Super Eagles did not come to me as a surprise," Mastoroudes disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com.

"He has struggled to impress with the national team in recent outings which has made people criticise him.

"I just believe he felt he can't  cope with the demands of international football and team's requirement, hence the need for him to call it quits," Mastoroudes concludes.

Emenike who made his debut for Nigeria in a friendly game against Sierra  Leone in 2011 scored 16 goals in 35 appearances for the Super Eagles.

His retirement should not suprise Nigerians cos he is no longer performing. Instead for him to improve on his performance and tie down starting shirt, he prefer to chicken out. We want those that are ready to give their all and be commited to the Coach Oliseh philosophy.
