After a goalless first half, the game sprung into life after John Terry's 50th minute own goal gave Everton the lead.
In the 56th minute, Kevin Mirallas doubled Everton's lead to make it 2-2.
But on 64 minutes, Diego Costa reduced the deficit before Cesc Fabregas completed the fightback two minutes later.
Substitute, Ramiro Funes Mori looked to have secured the three point for Everton, but Terry made amends for his earlier own goal when he scored in the 98th minute.
