Super Eagles forward Moses Simon was an unused substitute Tuesday night in AA Gent's 2-1 away win against Olympique Lyon at the Stade de Gerland.
Gent were desperate for three points to keep their chances of reaching the knockout stages intact likewise their French hosts and they achieved their goal in dramatic fashion as they scored the winning goal with virtually the last kick of the game.
Defeat to Lyon coupled with a Valencia win at Zenit would have extinguished Gent's hopes, but victory has now left it all to play for in the final group matches.
Jordan Ferri scored the first goal of the match in the sevnth minute but 29-year-old Switzerland midfielder Danijel Milicevic made it 1-1 in the 32nd minute. Kalifa Coulibaly who came off the bench in the 90th minute scored what proved a decisive goal for the Belgian side.
The match was ill-tempered as seven yellow cards, two for Lyon and five for Gent was issued by the referee.
