Mourinho Eyes EPL Title With United, Dismisses Wenger Rivalry, Defends Rooney

Jose Mourinho has declared that he aims to win the Premier League title with his current club Manchester United after winning three with Chelsea, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
United are sixth in the Premier League table, eight points adrift of the leaders Liverpool.
“I am in the club where I want to me,” Mourinho said on Friday in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Arsenal.
“That is so simple as that. When I was sacked at Chelsea I was not in trouble.

“I had lots of offers. I don’t speak about them. I could be working one week after in some of the biggest clubs in Europe. I waited for this chance.

“I was champion in four different clubs. I want to be champion in every club I have worked. I want to do that at Manchester United.

“We have some injuries but I’m not crying about the players we have or don’t have.

“It’s a window of opportunity for others and others are ready for those opportunities.”

Mourinho refused to give an update on the fitness of Chris Smalling, whom he criticised after United defeated Swansea two weeks ago.

“On Smalling you cannot ask, you have your sources and you believe what they tell you,” Mourinho added.

“I don’t say a word about Chris Smalling, I won’t comment on your sources. I’m not interested in that.

“I can comment on him (Luke Shaw), yes, he has worked really well and is ready to play, I don’t have any problem with him.

“There are things he needs to learn but he is a player who has my confidence.”

Mourinho also refused to be drawn into comparisons with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, with whom he has had a feisty relationship.

“I think Mr Wenger has the respect of his achievements from all of you, I don’t think I get that respect,” Mourinho said.
“For me the only thing that matters is what you get globally as a team, our results, our CV.
“In the PL tomorrow is a match between the two managers with the best record in the Premier League.

“Between us we are speaking about six, seven Premier League titles, I have three and Mr Wenger has three or four.

“That’s not important, I don’t play against managers.

“It’s a team versus a team, in the end a match is an isolated event.

“It is just one more match.”

Mourinho then defended Wayne Rooney who was recently pictured drunk while taking time out on international duty.

The ex-Porto manager said: “Over the last two, three days nothing happened, he trained like everyone else and he wants to play like everyone else.

“When he goes to the national team it isn’t my business, what happens for good or bad, I don’t interfere.

“National teams are a different chapter, this is closed now until I think March or end of February.”
