Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has declared that he is gunning for the Premier League title in his first season at Old Trafford.
“Many more think the same way but they are afraid to say it. They prefer to play a defensive game in words. They prefer to hide and play defensively with the words. That is not our way,” Mourinho said during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Sunday’s clash with Bornemouth.
“It is not Man Utd. Man Utd has to say from day one we want to win title. Maybe we don’t win. Maybe at the end of the season we are happy to finish in the top four. But in this moment, when I speak to you, and when I do that I speak to my players too, I cannot speak differently.”
When Mourinho was asked if he knew Paul Pogba would be banned for the opening game for picking up two bookings in last season’s Coppa Italia, he replied: “I didn’t know if an accumulation would bring suspension, I didn’t know if the suspension would be in the same competition, or the corresponding competition.”
Mourinho then claimed he wants Adnan Januzaj back after the winger’s loan spell at Sunderland.
The United boss said: “He fits in my plans. That is why he is on loan at a Premier League club. If he doesn’t fit in my plans, I don’t care where he is going, I just send him to Borussia Dortmund where he didn’t play one match.
“He is talented. But in the same squad as Martial, Memphis, Young etc, it could mean not many matches. We cannot be selfish.
“We have to think about the player. Let him play well. See him every week in this country. He is with a manager who likes him a lot but we want him back.”
