—Chelsea Boss To Appeal FA Fine, Insists His Players Back Him
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confessed that his side have lost the fear factor following a string of poor results.
The Premier League champions are 16th in the table with eight points from eight games and have already lost twice at Stamford Bridge this early in the season.
Chelsea welcome equally struggling Aston Villa on Saturday, and Mourinho feels the visitors will not be intimidated.
“Maybe. Maybe. One thing is to go to a stadium where there is a huge percentage of defeats for the away team,” Mourinho said during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“Another thing is to go to a stadium where the home team in the last four games has won only once. I really believe every team coming to Stamford Bridge doesn’t fear us. They think they can get a result.”
The Portuguese then hinted at a rare appearance for Ola Aina, the defender with Nigerian blood, following injury to Braslinav Ivanovic.
“We have only Ivanovic injury. Courtois is recovering. Everybody else is well.
“I have four solutions [at the back]. I have Azpilicueta, I have adaptations for Ramires, I have Ola Aina, boy with potential.
“Ruben Loftus-Cheek is with us since January working with us every day.
“Having the opportunity to play some matches. Evolution physically, mentally, tactically.
“He’s going to be a really top player.”
Mourinho insists he will appeal against the Football Association’s one-match ban and £50,000 fine that followed his rant after the 3-1 home loss to Southampton.
“Yes, I will appeal,” he said. “Maybe I am naive (And I know that I can use that word) but for me English football and its fans and passion for the game, what makes me like so much this country and the football in this country is not the FA. It’s the people. If one day I have to work for that people I will.”
He claims his players are happy with him despite reports of unrest within the squad.
Mourinho said: “I don’t see a player not happy to be here, unhappy when they’re together.
“What people write and think I don’t know how to stop and to be fair that’s not a big concern for me. We need to win matches for us Chelsea and our supporters.
“But how to stop stories and unfair stories I don’t know how. And we don’t worry about it.”Watch The Premier League Live!! with EXPRESSVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
