Mourinho: Terry, Cech, Mikel, Drogba Crucial To Our Success

Jose Mourinho says the level of experience in Chelsea’s squad has been crucial to their success this season.

Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Arsenal means the Blues are on the verge of landing their first Premier League title in five seasons and they head to Leicester tonight looking to pull further clear at the top of the table.

The backbone of the current Chelsea squad is similar to the one Mourinho guided to back-to-back titles during his first spell in charge of the club.

John Terry remains a regular at the back while Petr Cech, Jon Obi Mikel and Didier Drogba have played bit-part roles this season.

And Mourinho believes their title know-how has been crucial to ending Chelsea’s league drought.

“Petr was on the bench [against Arsenal], but could perfectly be on the pitch,” said Mourinho.

“You know, for the older guys, it’s also nice to belong to two different generations. If we are champions this season, Petr, Drogba and John, and also Mikel, they’ll belong to two generations, the same as me.

“It’s nice to belong to the history of a club in different moments. If we manage to be champions, it’s very nice for these older guys.”

If Chelsea beat Leicester tonight then a win against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday would clinch the title.
