Mozia Wins Team Nigeria’s First Medal At ASA Championships; Asumnu In 100m Final

Stephen Mozia won Team Nigeria's first medal in the first day of action at the on going Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Durban, South Africa Completesportsnigeria.com ‎reports.

Mozia who was making his second appearance at the African Championships having won Bronze two years ago, has now added another Bronze to increase his medals’ haul to two.

The 22 year old US-born shot-putter won the bronze medal in men’s shot-put event after throwing a distance of 19.84m to finish behind the duo of Jacobus Engelbrecht (South Africa) who won gold with a throw of 20.00m and Franck Elemba (Democratic Republic of Congo) who snatched silver with his throw of 19.89m.

Another Nigerian, Ogheneakpobo Efekoro finished 4th with a mark of 19.57m, in a Shot-put event that was closely contested.
In the other events, Gloria Asumnu made it to the finals of the 100m event for women while Nigeria has no representation in the male's 100m event.
Both Obinna Metu and Ogho-oghene Egwero did not make the trip to Durban, after making  the initial list.
