NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER

Leaders Sunshine Stars hundred percent home record will be put to test, when they host fellow Confederations Cup campaigners, Kaduna United at home.
The Akure Gunners are on top of the log mainly because of their impressive showing at their makeshift home ground, Gateway International stadium, Ijebu Ode.
Fourteen out of fourteen and a massive 30 goals scored, the highest by any side at home with a penalty five conceded and now the highly ambitious side are on the brink of a first domestic honour.
The Gbenga Ogunbote tutored side missed the opportunity of extending their lead at the top of the table last weekend, losing 2-0 to Warri Wolves with their close challengers Dolphins playing a 1-1 draw against Kwara United.
But leading scorer, Ajani Ibrahim is undaunted by the defeat as he reckons that they will recover well to re-establish a comfortable lead on the table. Ajani has so far scored 12 goals in the season with the likes of Enyimba’s Victor Barnabas and Kwara United Kabiru Sanusi as well as Warri Wolves Ekigho Ehiosun on his trail.
“It was unfortunate that we lost the game because we actually came for victory. But I believe we can still achieve our target which is to win the League trophy at the end of the season,” the former Enyimba dazzler said.
No doubt, the stakes are is high now with 10 matches remaining (though Sunshine have a game in hand) and with a top class coach like Maurice Cooreman around, Kaduna United have proven they can weather any storm no matter how difficult it looks.
They have earned valuable away points this term against top sides like Heartland and 3SC, that should serve as a warning signal to Ogunbote and his boys at this crucial stage of the season, when points matter.
Jude Aneke, the main target-man for United increased his tally to eight with a superb to strike against Ocean Boys last weekend. He alongside captain Emmanuel Bwan and Siman Yusuf will be main men for the northern side.
But the away side’s defenders will surely have a busy afternoon warding off the threat of Sunshine’s deadly trio of Ajani Ibrahim, Ukeyima Akombo and Atanda Sakibu.
The three men have score 24 goals amongst themselves during this campaign with the likes of Cletus Itodo, Godfrey Oboabona and Harrison Egbune scoring the rest.
