Lawrence Akpokona has been named as the successor of Kadiri Ikhana as head coach of Kwara United.The former Rangers coach is currently in Enugu to understudy the team after had been given the assignment by the transit caretaker boss of the team,Prince Toyin Olokoba.

Complete Sports gathered that Olokoba who is special assistant to Kwara state governor on sports had been a long admirer of Akpokona and had severally tried to bring him along in the team but has not succeeded.

Olokoba was in the board of the club previously and his emergence as the caretaker boss of the Afonja Warriors handed him the opportunity to employ his long term dream coach.

When contacted,Lawrence Akpokona said he was unaware of his purported employment as replacement for Kadiri Ikhana.He admitted being in Enugu to watch the Federation Cup and WAFU Cup matches but added that nothing is impossible as far as the life is concerned.

"I have not heard of such appointment",Akpokona who played for Insurance of Benin and led Rangers as coach to several CAF Confederation and Champions league competitions said.

"I'm in Enugu right to watch the federation cup and WAFU cup matches.But you know in life nothing is impossible especially in football just as the ball itself is round",Akpokona sounded.

Kwara United it would be recalled posted a somewhat awful performance in the league amidst expectations of a continental ticket feat.

Their 1-0 home defeat by Rangers in the WAFU cup first leg triggered a massive sweep out of the management board of the team led by Prince Oladimeji Thompson.
