Mikel Faces Time Out!

As young Spaniard provides fresh threat
Nigeria midfielder, John Obi Mikel’s future at English Premier League side, Chelsea, is under threat following youngster, Oriol Romeu’s impressive showing for the Blues in Wednesday’s Champions League victory against Racing Genk.
The young Spaniard replaced Mikel in front of the back four and churned a commanding performance reminiscent of the glorious days of the likes of Claude Makelele, Didier Deschamps and Dennis Wise who plied their trades protecting the Blue back four.
With Mikel having failed to stamp his authority in the position, Romeu is being prepped as the club’s long term midfield solution.
While commenting about the 5-0 victory over Genk, former Chelsea Assistant Manager, Ray Wilkins compared Romeu to Brazilian World Cup winger, Carlos Dunga, for his no nonsense approach in midfield, the morning papers reported shades of Makelele in the former Catalan protege.
The 20 year-old was also praised for his calmness on the ball and adept positional sense seemingly inherited from his time at the Nou Camp.
And to the fans too, it appears, at least in recent history of the Barclays Premier League, that Chelsea more than most, possess some of the World’s best holding players.
Despite regularly featuring for the Blues since his controversial switch from Norwegian side- Lyn Oslo in the summer of 2006, Mikel has yet to prove he is ready to step into the shoes held by former French midfield ace, Claude Makelele. He has been criticized severally for his lack of consistency and lack of goals and not living up to the £16m price tag Chelsea paid for his services.
This season, he has had to battle it out with new arrivals Raul Meireles. Oriol Romeu and Juan Mata for the midfield slot and his chance to secure first team place has been further boosted by the long term injury of Michael Essien.

well that serves him right-is he really a footballer or a fluke-ster.mikel obi has failed to improve since his joining chelsea, for Nigeria his useless.People tend to blame Mourinho-but wud u have a lampard then & play a mikel-who was at a time at par with Messi.my submission is mikel doesn't play football-he plays a script.for instance his goal against zimbabwe @ d nations cup(he hesitated)he was smuggled into.he doesn't play from the heart.

People can really say what they want.
But shouldn't this stop where it will hurt someone else?
I think the editorial team will have to moderate.
Is every thing now Siasia supporters and others? -

Naturally he is not a defensive midfielder but an attacking midfielder who has lost grip in his national team due to his sluggish system of play.sell him out let go and learn how to play meaningful and quick football in order clubs.

I think Mikel has to really improve mostly on scoring goals. He should also imbibe the spirit of humility and total acknowledgement of the fact that Nigeria made him what he is today.

please Nigerians should live Mikel alone, he has been in chelsea for up to six yrs many stars has come and our papers keep repeating thesame story of Mikel not good enough. chelsea is a big club and for the past six yrs have had different coaches all still play Mikel irrespective what player they buy. please Nigeria this guy is not a striker but a diffencive midfielder. i that is the problem chelsea they will not be paying him the type salary he receive today.

mikel is good, what he need is to allways move quickly when he have the chance to run with the ball, mikel have less chance to score because he was asked to stay with peter czech during free kicks and coner kicks, there by allowing john terry and co to move forward. but now the new coach asked him to go forward when there is coner kicks.

completesports has showed a total bias towards certain players and its a shame that you continue to use your platform which should be a contributor to the development of Nigerian football to your own selfish aims
soon after you wrote this rubbish article,MIKEL STARTS the next EPL game for chelsea,in your own deluded world you failed to realise that AVB thought we would win the game against genk and if not for the cross bar and bad misses,we would have, the coach basically rested his better players fo the EPL clash and if i remember very well,Mata,Lampard and some top players also did not start so what BS are you guys spewing -

we better learn how to appreciate our own thing and stop making our self's look like big fools in the presence of outsiders that we know too well that we are better of than, Mikel is a good player weather Nigerians agree to that fact or not it will not change the fact, ok lets look at it from facts, this is up to six years that he joined Chelsea and since then Chelsea have had several coaches that will come and go with each coach including Mikel in his game plans, that mean that he always have a useful role playing in Chelsea team and that makes him outstanding. so what ever opinion any body have it is your own concern and it ends in your bed roam, if he can play under world best coaches and they see him as one of the keys to their game plan, how much more you local failure that have not gone to represent even your primary school in your village tell some one to go to hail, please lets mind our utterances ok we all are brothers and this is our home, there is no place like home. ONE LOVE.
