Nigeria defender, Onyekachi Apam is delighted to have finally make his debut for French side, Stade Rennes.
The former Enugu Rangers player make his long awaited debut for the Red and Blacks almost 19 months after he transferred from another French side, OGC Nice in a Europa
League fixture against Atletico Madrid of Spain last Thursday.
And even though his side lost the encounter 3-1, the well built centre half is happy to be back on the pitch doing what he knows how to do best.
“It’s good to be playing once again after my injury troubles”, begins the former Nigeria youth
international who missed the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa due to the injury.
“I would have loved it if we had won the game but you cannot always have your wish in football. It was also important for me to play the entire duration of the game which is important for my recovery.
I can’t remember the last time I was on the pitch for the entire duration during of a game.I just hope to get more games and improve my fitness level”.
Rennes are currently fifth on Ligue 1 table, seven points behind leaders,Montpelier, but Apam is confident they can still fight for honours this season.
“We have an experienced team that is still capable of winning something this season, even though we are seven points behind the leaders.
The are still many matches to play before the end of the season and we hope to give our fans something to cheer at the end of the day”.
The Frederic Antonetti led side travel to the Stade Francois Coty to face bottom placed, AC Ajaccio.
