OBASI’S BACK IN EAGLES
Posted: Aug 23, 2011
Injury-hit Hoffenheim forward Chinedu Obasi has been recalled for next month’s 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier against Madagascar and the grade A international friendly against Argentina in Dhaka,Bangladesh.
Top team officials informed that Obasi, who last featured for Nigeria at last year’s World Cup in South Africa, will return to the Eagles after he was sidelined for most of last season by a shin complaint.
Eagles coach Samson Siasia is “very excited” by Ogbuke’s return to full fitness.
The Eagles visit Madagascar for a must-win Nations Cup qualifier on September 3 before they jet out to Bangladesh for a rematch against Argentina three days later.
Dynamo Kiev striker Brown Ideye has also been listed for these matches after he was placed on standby for the botched friendly against Ghana in London.
A close source to the team disclosed to MTNFootball.com: “The coach (Siasia) is desperate to win in Madagascar as well as score many goals to brighten Nigeria's chances of qualifying for next year’s Africa Nations Cup. That is why he has invited Osaze, Obasi and Ideye to join the other strikers Ikechukwu Uche, Emmanuel Emenike, Obinna Nsofor, Ahmed Musa and Solomon Okoronkwo.”
Siasia is also looking forward to the return to full fitness of defender Onyekachi Apam.
“Siasia is also hoping for the quick return of defender Apam, who he calls the destroyer who cleans up any mess in Eagles rear as a sweeper,” said a team official.
“He also loves the player who gives the Eagles options at the back since Apam can play as a right back, central defender and also as a defensive midfielder.”
