SIASIA: MY BIG OSAZE, MIKEL REGRET

Eagles Coach Reveals Alibion Striker Was Not Fully Fit For Guinea Game

FOOTBALL:
Super Eagles head coach Samson Siasia has bizarelly admitted he fielded a half fit Osaze Odemwingie from the start in penultimate Saturday's 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier in Abuja, admitting he committed a grave mistake by that action.

Siasia, according to a member of the technical committee of the federation who is also an ex-international revealed that he fielded Osaze because he didn't want Nigerians to think he is still holding any grudge against the equally underfire West Brom of England forward.

'He was not 100% for the match but I fielded him because I didn't want people to think I am still fighting him over what he did last March when he defied my orders and travelled to England on the eve of our international friendly game against Kenya',Siasia was quoted as saying.

Osaze returned from a two-match ban imposed on him by Siasia for walking out on the Eagles in March, but was off colour against the Syli Stars as he spurned several begging chances particularly in the first half of that ill-fated game that finished 2-2.

The coach, according to our source said he regretted the action. He also regretted fielding Mikel Obi in the match.

'He also told us he didn't want to start Mikel in the match because of his late arrival to camp but other members of the technical crew prevailed on him to start the Chelsea player',said the source.

his mistake in starting Osaze Odemwingie as well as Mikel Obi against Guinea.
Siasia equally moaned over the 1-0 loss to Guinea by the Eagles under caretaker coach Austin Eguavoen in October 2010.

That was the team’s only loss in the qualifying tournament, but in the end it had a huge bearing on determining the final qualifiers for the 2012 Nations Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

However, another top member of the technical committee, according to mtnfootball told Siasia that this was not “a sabotage” and that the under-fire Eagles handler ought not to have taken up the team a month later, if he was not sure he could still qualify the team to the Nations Cup proper.

All you SiaOne supporters, see your man! What kind of coach is swayed by the opinions of others to the extent that he does what he does not want to do? Is this the man you want us to retain? Answer!

I have always opposed the appointment of Siasia as the Head Coach of the SE because i've always seen him as a maturing coach not yet ripe for the magnitude of responsibility of the National Team job. My judgement is based on the 2005 WYC and Olympic Games final losses to Argentina. If anyone goes back to watch the tapes of these games, you will realise that we lost due to the technical deficiency of our bench headed by Siasia. Also, a closer look at our loss to Germany at Egypt in the WYC will reveal his deficiency. In my opinion, Stephen "Big Boss" Keshi is the best man Nigerian Coach for that job. Keshi has handled other National Teams and was also in "Charge" of the SE while he played and Captained that team. He's best eqipped for the job. Perhaps someone like Siasia can assist with the NFF Technical Dept headed by Sunday Oliseh being Africas most qualified Coach on paper.

we want him. He did not put blames on anybody but admited that his greatest mistake. Lets put sentiments aside. Have we easily forgotten the incident of keshi that we are asking for now with togos emmanuel adebayor, he did not even qualify mali to quarter final of nations cup. Check his profile he is better either. Hiw sure are we that if he is appointed he wont have problems with these so called nigerian stars? Look before you leap pls. Dont be blinded by sentiments. Keshi is from my village i should ordinarily have my support but his time will come not now. Hope u guys will not be the first to cast stones on him when he fails us at that time.

I can't believe that siasia will open up his mouth to say this nonsense, we all know that osaze was omitted from the team for two matches, if really he wasn't fit for the game against Guinea while not rest him or bring him in towards 30mins of the end with that nobody will raise an eyebow but for Mikel i don't see anything wrong for playing him in the match because he really contributed his quota for the game, the big mistake for the game was drop Enyeama and nt also using their psyche to know that Egide is fall batter than uncomposed Dele Aiyenugba. All thsame the mistake has been done and should be accepted as a collective blame and not for one individual and no need to call for anyone head because 2013 ACN 2014 WC is around the corner, siasia remain our coach because he
    is the best for now.

But what is wrong in admitting one's error? I agree witth @Sunday that Sia1 should ignore the press and mind what he says because people are everywhere looking for avenues to nail him. And Sia1, please just stick with the reality that we didn't qualify under your watch, nothing will happen to you.

I am not against Keshi but he has coached other African countries, and we knew how it fare. The Angola AFCON didn't go down well with him as coach of Mali and he was fired. He isn't the best of coaches either. Today, the great Arsene Wenger is under fire from Arsenal fans. I remember not too long ago when the Man U board mutted the possibility of sacking Sir Fergusson. Other coaches pleaded his case. Every coach, as a human being, has his challenges. Sia1 this is your challenge. Face it and you will come out a better person.

I understand the pain of those who are calling for Sia1's head but please think about it. The current team is undergoing very testing times. How would the team have fared at the Nations Cup? It's not about Sia1. The last 3 editions of the AFCON including the 2010 WC in SA have been very painful experiences for Nigeria. May be, just may be, it's better that we didn't qualify so we can look at the NFF (yes, the NFF are the main issues here) and fashion out the best way forward for management of Nigerian football. God bless Nigeria.

Well Siasia is human like any of us. For those calling for his head,i think you're overreacting. For those willing that he continue, I could best describe you as die hard Sia1 fans. For those who said the glass house has failed us i don't think there's much truth in that. I honestly felt no patriotic Nigerian would have want us ousted from the Nations cup, it has happened -what is the way forward? Let Siasia continue the rebuilding process, let people like Aiyegbeni whose got nothing more to offer our national team close his gut for life and face his club football squarely at least he earns his weekly income, let the NFF reorganize the glass house and reduce this endemic corruption, let the SE players reenact their commitment for the national team. Sia1 no more preferential treatment-Ok?

i had reserved comments up till now on whether siasia should go or not, but this really hurts. is he trying to shift blame? are nigerians responsible for the loss? is he telling us we got what we deserve? i think its far better if they all keep quiet and allow this wound heal up!

i know 4rm the day Vincent was removed 4rm squad by siasia that we are not going 2 win the match. Osazee came cos he was afraid of what will happen next if he didnt go 4 d match that is why the guy went with injury. we ve learnt our lesson so we should be serious in future time. removing siasia will nt be the solution. if im 2 decide i will leave him as coach

Siasia is a good coach and he can as well manage super eagle but I'm highly disappointed with this His comment if its true. Mr Samson Siasia, take responsibility for your failure like a man and stop passing the buck, you even went as low as say that the first leg loss in Conakry was a reason for not qualifying. I was sorry for you initially but these blatant talks coming from you now. He should be relieved of that post and someone who's ready to take responsibility put in place. What a sorry story to read from Samson Siasia, so sad indeed. Have you forgotten so quick how you boasted of beating Guinea silly? We are not gullible and judge by what we see and hear.In this case, you goofed big time.

Where did you talk to your source or member of the technical committee that gave you this information that you are giving to Nigerians? If you want Siasia to go, just add your voice to those who have made their wishes known without hiding under the banner of "our sources said or didn't say" because what you have just said can not stand!

To all of you who has contributed into Sia 1 comment, be sincere with your selves. if the man has refused to use Osaze for that match and the result went this same way.
You would have call for the head of Sia 1, when Nigeria defeated Madagascar without Osaze, u guys were saying we would have scored more but for Osazes absence.
So, i can see that majority of you guys are not really facing fact and the earlier you realize your insincerity the better for the country. As for me, we are all to be blame even i dont have any preference for any of the player, but we are all involve in selections either directly or indirectly.

Only an idiot will not admit his mistakes and learn from them.
Siasia will always be my favorite coach. His words reflect a man who is mature and confident in his abilities, who is willing to make mistakes and learn from them.

It is idiotic Nigerians that will see fault in that. They would prefer a dunce of a coach like Keshi who will bullshit his way through everything but not have anything to offer.
