France-Based Star Tops Rwanda's 30-man List For Eagles Match
Posted: Feb 16, 2012
Rwandan head coach, Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic, on Wednesday released a list of 30 players that will jostle for places in the Amavubi squad that will confront Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Kigali in the 2013 Africa Nations Cup first leg qualifier at the Amahoro stadium come February 29.
The media officer of Amavubi, Boonie Mugabe informed Complete Sports that leading the list of invited players is Elias Uzamukunda (AS Cannes- France) who incidentally is the only Europe-based player in the list.
A breakdown of the list shows that 3 goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 11 midfielders and 6 strikers were invited.
Sredojevic who has had a near-perfect start as Rwanda coach after a run of seven wins- two draws and one defeat, is targeting an upset against the Eagles, who are still reeling in the pains of their failure to make it to the just concluded Africa Nations Cup finals in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African football has chosen South African referee, Daniel Bennett, to handle the Rwanda/Nigeria game.
The 36-year-old is one of South Africa's five FIFA-badged referees. He will be assisted by fellow South Africans, Zakhele Thusi Siwela (1st Assistant), Luyanda Somi (2nd Assistant) and Tinyiko Victor Hlungani (Reserve Referee).
Hassan Waberi Suleiman from Djibouti will be the match commissioner.
