Heartland Hold Rangers In Oriental Derby

3SC Back To Winning Ways

Enyimba Thrash Wolves 2-0 In Aba

Shooting Stars of Ibadan are back on winning ways after a 1-0 defeat of visiting Ocean Boys in a Premier League week 10 fixture decided Saturday.

Osagona Ighodalor scored the eventual match winner seven minutes after the break to restore confidence in the ambitious home side who had not won any of their previous three games.

However, the victory was not without a cost as the Oluyole Warriors lost one of their fans, Imam Mohammed Bashir who died while trying to enter the stadium to cheer his darling team.

According to 3SC spokesman, Jubril Arowolo, the remains of the departed Imam Mohammed Bashir was  buried on Sunday [yesterday].

Shooting Stars have thus moved to the 10th position with 12 points after Saturday’s win over Ocean Boys who further dropped down the ladder to the 18th position.

However, the Oriental derby between hosts, Rangers International and Heartland ended in a no victor, no vanquished as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

Chikeluba Ofoedu had given the Coal City Flying Antelopes an early lead when he converted a first minute penalty kick after he was felled in the area just immediately after kick off.

But the Naze Millionaires rallied back on level terms in the 62minute when Brendan Ogbu silenced the vociferous home team supporters with a lovely equalizer.

Though it could best be tagged a befitting finish to two sides locked in rivalry, it turned out to be Heartland’s first point on the road since the start of the season.

Rangers are more devastated by the draw considering the fact that the equalizing goal came from their former player, Brendan Ogbu who scored 11 league goals last term.

Ogbu had been entangled in heated transfer logjam since the summer when he announced his intention to move to the Naze Millionaires fold.

Rangers retained their second position on the log trailing leaders, Dolphins on goals scored. Though dolphins have a game in hand, they are tied on 15 points with Rangers and while the Stanley Eguma team has scored nine goals, Rangers have scored eight despite the two sides having plus six goals difference.

Heartland, on the other hand, is 14th on the log with nine points.

Enyimba of Aba made their home advantage count when it handed a 2-0 defeat to Warri Wolves.  Villified former Flying Eagles and Dream Team V forward, Gbolahan Salami, opened the scoring with a 14th minute goal while petit Onyekachi Okoye doubled the lead in the 77th minute.

Enyimba with six Premier League titles behind the belt, is 7th on the log with 12 points.

Kwara United continued their push for a place among the top three at the end of the season for a place in the continent after edging Akwa United 2-1 in Ilorin.

Goals from Jaiyeola Yusuf [27mins] and Anthony Okemmiri [37mins] guaranteed the home side the maximum points despite Haruna Babalo reducing the deficit for the Soloman Ogbeide team before the break.

Kwara United are now firmly third on the table with 15 points to join the Dolphins, Rangers and Wikki Tourists on 15 points.
