Joel Obi Seeks 4th UCL Start For Inter
Posted: Feb 22, 2012
Super Eagles midfielder, Joel Chukwuma Obi will be hoping he gets embattled Inter Milan coach, Claudio Ranieri's nod to make his fourth start tonight in six UEFA Champions League games.
The Nigerian has lost his place as a regular starter for the fumbling Nerazzurrini and would hope for a change of fortune tonight as he bids to get a place in the starting XI for Inter at the Stade Velodrome.
Obi made his first start in the money-spinning event last September, playing for 56 minutes in Inter's surprise 1-0 loss to visiting Turkish side,Trabzonspor at the San Siro in Milan.
He was on for all 90 minutes in the second game in Moscow in Inter's 3-2 away win against Chidi Odiah's Army team,CSKA Moscow. He was relegated to the bench when Inter hosted and pipped Vincent Enyeama's Lille 1-0.Obi came in as a 64th minute substitute in the game.
Things did not get better for the Nigerian in the reverse fixture, playing for only three minutes in a 2-1 win for Inter at the San Siro.
Obi would however return to reckoning again when Inter hosted and lost 2-1 to CSKA Moscow in Milan albeit their qualification for the knock-out phase was already confirmed before the match.
If Obi gets to play today,no matter how-either as a sub on or sub off,he would have played in seven Champions League games after makinh his debut in the 4-0 rout of Werder Bremen in the 2010/2011 season.
