NIGERIAN TRACK STARS FAIL TO SPARKLE INDOORS

There are palbable fears in the air that Nigeria may make another friutless trip to Istanbul, Turkey next month for the IAAF World Indoor Championships following the indifferent showings of some of her best legs in the on-going Indoor Athletics circuit.

Four years ago Nigeria recorded her second best moment in the championships when sprinter,Olusoji Fasuba became the second Nigerian to win a World Indoor Championships title (60m),following in the footsteps of the late Sunday Bada who won the 400m gold in Paris in 1997.

Four years on,it has been one fruitless trip to another and signs of a change in fortune look very bleak as most of the athletes Nigeria would be relying on have been far from impressive in the circuit.

In the men's 60m,the duo of Peter Emelieze and Ogho-Oghene Egwero have failed to live up to expectations and are ranked outsiders for a podium appearance in Istanbul. Emelieze, the Nigeria leader in the event so far this season with 6.60 seconds run is ranked the 25th best in the world while Egwero is outside the top 40.
