OGUNJOBI BACKS KESHI ON ENYEAMA,OTHERS
Posted: Feb 20, 2012
Super Eagles boss, Stephen Keshi, has earned praises from Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi following his decision to list just 11 foreign based players ahead next week's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Amavubi of Rwanda in Kigali.
Ogunjobi, a former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, and later Chairman of the Technical Committee told Complete Sports that Keshi's decision will add value to the domestic league as well as reduce the financial implication of inviting so many foreign based players when it was obvious that not all of them will play the match.
"It is a good thing he (Keshi) has done by reducing the number of foreign based players invited for the match against Rwanda," observes Ogunjobi who is also a CAF/FIFA Match Commissioner.
"By inviting only 11 foreign based players, Keshi has sent a clear message that players in the Premier League who he has been keeping in camp all along are truly part of his programmes in the 2013 Nations Cup qualifiers.”
"Remember that he has said it times without number that he is rebuilding the national team and I think this is clearly a pointer to that. If you ask me, I will say it will go a long way in raising the confidence of the players from the Nigeria Premier League that they do not need to travel to Europe before they could play for the national team. It is also a challenge for the domestic league players to work hard in order to play themselves into the Super Eagles and justify the confidence the coach has in them.”
