PAPA IDRIS: PLAYING WITH YOBO WILL BE FUN
Posted: Feb 20, 2012
Super Eagles defender, Papa Idris, has declared his excitement about the prospect of playing alongside skipper Joseph Yobo at the senior national team level, saying such scenario would be fun for him.
The Kano Pillars center-back is among the home-based players invited by coach Stephen Keshi in his rebuilding programme for the team with the dark-skinned has been getting rave reviews after some solid display for the Home Eagles in all the friendly games played so far.
With Keshi merely calling up only 11 foreign based players including the on-loan Fernabahce of Turkey libero, Joseph Yobo, for the upcoming qualifier against Rwanda, Idris reckons it will be interesting for him to train alongside the Nigerian captain who was also a member of the 1999 Flying Eagles team that featured in that year's FIFA U-20 World Cup staged in Nigeria.
"It is not a matter of me being selected for the match in Kigali against Rwanda; but it looks like something of a fun for me to train with the Super Eagles players like Yobo," Papa, who plies his trade with Kano Pillars offered.
"Yobo is one of the biggest Nigerian players at the moment because he has a lot of experience and achievement. As a player, we all respect him a lot and I think it will be a valuable experience for me to train together because we will have a lot to learn from him."
Despite some sparkling displays in the Eagles backline in recent matches partnering Warri Wolves defender Azubuike Egwueke, Idris is not certain he will keep his place when the likes of Yobo and other established stars in the team arrive but he is not bothered about that just yet.
