Uche Okechukwu warns Super Eagles Ahead Sunday’s World Cup Qualifier
Former Super Eagles defender, Uche Okechukwu, has warned the Eagles defence to be vigilant at the back in Sunday's 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Namibia.
The Eagles have not been having it too easy during qualifiers for major tournaments in recent past and there are concerns among some soccer-loving Nigerians about the chances of the team to make it to the 2013 Africa Nations Cup and 2014 World Cup.
But Uche, who was a key member of the 1994 Africa Nations Cup and 1994 World Cup, informed Complete Sports that the team must do well to avoid conceding easy goals on Sunday.
"The Eagles will need to start on a winning note, and I want to say that they have to start on a sound note. The Namibians may be who they are, a supposedly small football country in Africa, but from experience, it is dangerous to be disrespectful to these countries, they can be giant killers."
"The team will miss the likes of Joseph Yobo, Mikel Obi and Yakubu, but they still have some good players who are professionals in their own right and now have the chance to stake their places in the team."
"The problem will be in avoiding cheap goals, I believe the strikers will get a goal or two in that game," Uche asserted.
The Eagles started perfecting their tactics for the match at the UJ Eusene Stadium, Calabar yesterday, having trained at the UNICAL Sports Centre since Monday.
