Falcons Poised To Shock Zimbabwe
Posted: May 26, 2012
Nigeria’s senior women national team, the Super Falcons will this weekend trade tackles with their Zimbabwean counterparts in an 2012 African Women Championship qualifier in Harare.
Speaking ahead of the match, Head coach, Kadiri Ikhana expressed confidence that the Falcons are battle ready to ensure Nigeria pick the needed points to enhance their qualification chances.
“I believe we have a team that can do Nigeria proud not only by knocking out Zimbabwe from the race, but going all the way to retain the African title.
“We have prepared well having been in camp for a couple of weeks and have done a lot of work.
“We’ll be taking the game to our opponents right in their domain because we want to ensure the return leg would be a mere formality,” said the Falcons boss.
It would be recalled that the Falcons have won every edition of the African Women Championship except one since the inaugural edition hosted by Nigeria in 1998. The only occasion where the Falcons failed to win the trophy was at the 2008 finals in Equatorial Guinea.
The second leg of the game will be played in Nigeria in a fortnight
