Lawal backs Eagles Lima performance

Says 1-0 Defeat Is Not A Bad Result

Former Super Eagles left winger, Garba Lawal, has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Super Eagles players despite the fact that they lost 1-0 to Peru in Lima during the friendly match played in the early hours of yesterday.

The team made up largely of players that are playing their club football in the domestic league conceded a first half goal, but recovered to give a good account of themselves before few Europe-based stars were introduced in the second stanza.

Lawal, a member of the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee however described the result as a good one, taking into consideration the fact that the team is made up of home- based stars.

“I am quite in support of Keshi’s programme, and I fully understand what he is trying to achieve with the team. The truth is that the team is undergoing a rebuilding process and when such is the case, you should expect results like this.

“It is even at this stage that losing could still be tolerated and not when we get to the qualifiers proper where outright wins will be needed.”

“Truly, if we want to consider our current position in the FIFA ranking, one could say a win would have been better.

“But the need to build a very formidable team for the qualifiers ahead of us is very important as well. So, the result is still not too bad for a team that is going through a rebuilding process.”
